Bringing your Yorkie or Biewer Puppy Home

Congratulations your Fiesta puppy!

PUPPY INSTRUCTIONS AIID DIRECTIONS

Coming Home

VIP : Your new puppy should be treated as a newborn baby.

Your puppy should not be handled constantly.  Just like a baby, the puppy can become sore and grouchy from too much handling.

Temperature

Cold
Since a young puppy cannot control its own body temperature, monitor the air temperature.  Add an extra blanket so that your puppy can snuggle into the warmth.

Heat
Too much heat is also dangerous for a puppy.  The study found that the air inside a parked car in the sun heated by an average of 40 degrees within an hour, regardless of whether the outside temperature was a mild 72 degrees or a sweltering 96.  Moreover, the temperature rose surprisingly fast: 19 degrees in the first 10 minutes, and 34 degrees within half an hour.  Cracking the windows or running the air conditioning before turning off the engine did not keep the car any cooler.

Hypoglycemia

Your yorkie or Biewer cannot control its own body temperature.  If the puppy is held or played with for too long, its blood sugar could lower to a point where the puppy would become weak, tremble, wobble, and in extreme cases go into a hypoglycemic crisis(very low blood sugar level), go into a coma, and die.  This is not the norm.  Hypoglycemia is not a disease. It is stress and food related. can be treated.  As long as you take the proper time to get your puppy used to its new environment and also to you, all should be fine.

Even having the puppy sleep from one person to another is enough to cause stress, even if you think the puppy is sleeping and is fine.  Remember at this is its first time away from mom and its littermates.  If you have had company and a busy day with your puppy, you will want to give your puppy some NutraCal on its tongue.  Typically, we give no more than 1 inch of NutraCal at a time.  This will give your puppy a little boost of energy.  Please understand that giving your puppy NutraCal is not to be done daily.  This is really only ever needed during the first few weeks after your puppy gets home.  NOTE: It is a crucial time in the puppy's life.

Children and Your Puppy

Should a child wish to hold the puppy, he or she should be asked to sit on the
floor.  Puppies of this age wiggle quite a bit, and could jump from a child's arms
and fall.  Falling can cause serious injury and even death, so please use caution.
When a child is seated on the floor, the puppy cannot fall down a great distance
and this is a safe situation for all.
